Potato Creation Wins Iowa State Fair's Best Food Contest

(Des Moines, IA) -- This year's Best New Food Winner at the Iowa State Fair is "The Finisher." It's a large potato, loaded with everything. The food item is sold at the Rib Shack, south of the Riley Stage.

The $10 item consist of a large potato (special-ordered from Idaho), loaded with bacon brisket, macaroni and cheese, smoke brisket, pulled pork, barbeque butter, sour cream, and queso.

Fair goers were able to vote on their favorite top three new foods. The other contenders in the Iowa State Fair's Best New Food Contest were the O-M-G Chicken Sandwich and the Pork Picnic in a Cup.

The "OMG" Chicken Sandwich is sold at Chicken City. It's a chicken breast that is lightly battered and covered in sugar coated corn flakes fried to golden brown and served on a glazed doughnut. It's topped with bacon and drizzled with syrup.

"Pork Picnic in a Cup" is sold at the Iowa Pork Tent. It's a cup filled with layers of BBQ pulled pork, baked beans, creamy coleslaw and a drizzle of BBQ sauce, garnished with brown sugar pork belly.

There are more than 50 new foods at the Fair this year.
