NSP Troopers Make Arrest After High Speed Pursuit near Lexington

(Lexington, NE) -- A Chicago man is arrested in central Nebraska following a high speed pursuit.

The Nebraska State Patrol says around 11:00 Wednesday morning, a trooper spotted a car speeding over 100 miles per hour on I-80 near Lexington. The NSP says a trooper attempted to pull the vehicle over but the driver sped off, initiating a pursuit. The state patrol says during the pursuit, the vehicle reached speeds of nearly 120 miles per hour and at times passed other vehicles on the shoulder. Investigators say another trooper was able to successfully deploy stop sticks, but the vehicle still refused to stop. About 15 minutes into the pursuit, a trooper successfully performed a tactical vehicle intervention to bring the vehicle to a stop.

The driver, 23 year old Frederick McGee was taken into custody. Troopers also found a duffle bag containing 16 pounds of marijuana in the trunk of the car. McGee was arrested for flight to avoid arrest, willful reckless driving, possession of marijuana – more than one pound, possession with intent to deliver, and other charges. He was lodged in Dawson County Jail
