Voter ID, Minimum Wage Initiatives to be on November Ballot in Nebraska

(Omaha, NE) -- Two major initiatives will appear on the November ballot in Nebraska.

On Tuesday, Nebraska Secretary of State Bob Evnen's Office announced that the Voter ID and minimum wage initiatives will be included on November's ballot. A statement from Evnen reads, “After careful review by our counties, I can confirm that the statutory requirements for valid signatures have been met by both the Voter ID and the Minimum Wage initiatives. I have reviewed the initiatives, and both are in compliance with the law. Both the Voter ID and Minimum Wage initiatives will be placed on the ballot for the November general election.”

The Voter ID amendment would require voters to present a valid photo ID when casting a ballot. The minimum wage initiative would increase the state minimum wage from $9 per hour to $10.50 an hour next year. The minimum wage would then increase to $12 per hour on Jan. 1, 2024, up to $13.50 per hour on Jan. 1, 2025, and finally to $15 per hour on Jan. 1, 2026.

The initiative also calls for the minimum wage to be adjusted annually after 2026 to account for increases in the cost of living.
