Nebraska Task Force 1 deployed to Puerto Rico following Hurricane Fiona

(Lincoln, NE) -- Members of Nebraska Task Force 1 will deploy to Puerto Rico Monday afternoon in the wake of Hurricane Fiona.

Hurricane Fiona battered the island territory as up to 22 inches of rain fell in some areas, with still more rain expected as it moves out towards the Dominican Republic. Millions on the island are without power, while over 1,000 Puerto Ricans have had to be rescued do to the flooding and mudslides.

NE-TF1 is the Urban Search and Rescue Team based with Lincoln Fire and Rescue. The team includes 45 firefighters from LFR, the Omaha Fire Department, Grand Island Fire Department, Council Bluffs Fire Department, and Papillion Fire Department. The team also includes civilian members who include physicians, search dogs with handlers and structural engineers.
