WEST DES MOINES, Iowa -- Iowa home sales are down, and prices are up last month.

The Iowa Association of Realtors says statewide home sale prices were up about 13 percent in August, while the number of houses sold was down was just over 23 percent.

The association says home sales traditionally start to slow in August as families end vacations and get ready to send kids back to school.

They also say homes that did sell last month went quickly, spending an average of 27 days on the market.

The association says those sales were about 13 percent faster than August of last year.

Also, they say the number of homes available for sale continue to increase after record low numbers this Spring.

The inventory of homes was about 20 percent lower than in August 2021 with 7,510 homes on the market statewide.
