Two juveniles arrested in connection to shootings, Lincoln armed carjacking

(Lincoln, NE) -- Two juveniles are arrested in connection to Omaha shootings and an armed carjacking in Lincoln.

Lincoln Police say just before 3:00 Saturday afternoon, officers were called to the 500 block of N 16th Street for a reported armed carjacking. Once on the scene, officers spoke with a 29 year old woman who reported that she was parking her vehicle, a 2022 Mazda CX-30, when a red Ford Fusion pulled up next to her. Investigators say the someone told officers that a male exited the Fusion and approached her vehicle. LPD says the victim described the man as wearing a facemask and armed with a rifle as he arrived at her door.

Police say the male began yelling at the victim to open her door and gestured with the rifle that he would break her window if she did not comply. Investigators say the victim opened her door and got out of the car. LPD says the male then got into the car and the two vehicles left the area.

LPD says just minutes later, officers were dispatched to State Fair Park Drive & Cornhusker Hwy on the report of a hit & run. Police say the Mazda taken in the previous incident was involved in a crash, with the driver of the Mazda fleeing the scene and getting picked up by an unknown vehicle. The carjacking victim’s vehicle was left on scene and was recovered, but police say the damage estimate listed it as totaled.

During follow-up investigation, LPD says the suspected Red Fusion was found to have been reported stolen in Omaha. Communication with Omaha Police indicated they pursued the vehicle regarding multiple shootings in their jurisdiction, and they presently have two juvenile male suspects in custody. Police say also located with the vehicle was a Glock handgun and an AR style pistol.

The investigation into this incident in ongoing. Anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact Lincoln Police at 402-441-6000 or Lincoln Crime Stoppers at 402-475-3600.
