5th teen suspect arrested in connection to south Omaha carjacking, shooting

(Omaha, NE) -- A 5th teen is arrested in connection to an armed carjacking and shooting in south Omaha.

Omaha Police say on October 12th, a group of teens carjacked a woman at gunpoint at Spring Lake Park. Investigators say as the suspects were fleeing the area in the woman's car, they shot multiple times at a passing vehicle. The driver, 32 year old Jorge Garcia, was hit by gunfire. He was taken to Nebraska Medicine for treatment.

OPD says the carjacking victim's car and four suspects were eventually located near 21st and Binney. The first four arrested were arrested and taken to the Douglas County Youth Center for:

  • 16 year old male for Robbery, use of a weapon (gun) and felon in possession of a firearm
  • 13 year old male for Robbery and use of a weapon (gun)
  • 17 year old male for Robbery and use of a weapon (gun)
  • 14 year old male for Robbery and use of a weapon (gun)

Police say on Thursday, the fifth suspect was identified in this investigation and interviewed at OPD Headquarters. As a result of the investigation a 17 year old male was booked into the Douglas County Youth Center for 1st degree assault, Criminal Conspiracy and two counts of use of a gun to commit a felony.
