Iowa Republican Lawmakers Announce Legislative Leaders

(Des Moines, IA) -- Iowa Republican lawmakers are announcing their leaders for the next legislative session. Pat Grassley (R-New Hartford) has been re-elected Speaker of the House. Matt Windschitl (R-Missouri Valley) will be House Majority Leader.

Representative John Wills (R-Spirit Lake) was re-elected as Speaker Pro Tem, a position he has held since 2019.

Representative Henry Stone (R-Forest City) was elected for the first time as House Majority Whip.

Assistant Leaders will be elected at a later date.

Iowa Democrats have not announced their House leaders yet. The session begins January 9th.

Republicans won 34 seats in the Iowa Senate, which would be a supermajority. It means the Senate GOP will have enough votes to confirm all state agency leaders and board and commission leaders.
