(Omaha, NE) -- Seniors in need who would like to receive free thanksgiving meals through the Salvation Army's TurkeyFest holiday-meal program need to do so by Thursday afternoon.
This is the Salvation Army’s 31st annual TurkeyFest, a city-wide mobile-feeding operation that delivers complimentary Thanksgiving dinners to older adults in need. The Kroc Center at 28th & Y Streets serves as both the kitchen and the distribution hub. Registrations will be accepted through noon on Thursday, November 17th. Meal delivery occurs Thanksgiving morning, November 24th.
The Salvation Army says they will have more than a thousand meals available to those who qualify. Recipients must be 60 years of age or older and must be home on Thanksgiving morning to receive a meal. To register, call 402-898-6023. Please note that you must speak to one of the Salvation Army's representatives on the phone to register; no voice mails will be accepted.
TurkeyFest recipients will receive a Thanksgiving meal featuring turkey, potatoes, stuffing, gravy, green beans, cranberry sauce, dinner roll, and more—all delivered by community volunteers, which are also needed. Organizers are still looking for volunteers to serve as meal-delivery drivers, meal-runners (taking meals from the Kroc Center kitchen out to cars waiting in the parking lot), and meal-prep assistants. Those interested can call 402-898-6000 to sign up to volunteer. Both individuals and families are welcome to volunteer for this program.
