Investigation underway in Lincoln following string of drive-by shootings

(Lincoln, NE) -- An investigation is underway in Lincoln following a string of drive-by shootings early Tuesday morning.

Lincoln Police say between 12:50 a.m. and 3:46 a.m. Tuesday, police were called to three different locations on reports of drive by shootings. Police say the first shooting was reported at 12:50 a.m. at a home near 28th & D Street. Investigators say a man was out walking his dog and reported seeing a sedan stop in front of a house. Police say he then heard 4-5 gunshots and saw the vehicle quickly flee the area eastbound. LPD say officers found .223 caliber and 9mm shell casings at the scene. Police say it appears the home was hit four times, with damage estimated at $1,190. No injuries were reported.

LPD says the second shooting was reported at 3:30 a.m. at a home near Jameson North and Canterbury Lane. Investigators say a resident heard four to five gunshots, ran outside, and spotted a small vehicle leaving the area at a high rate of speed. Police say responding officers found two houses had been struck by gunfire. LPD says one home was struck twice, with damage estimated at $215.00, while the other house was hit three times, with damage estimated at $210.00. Officers recovered .223 caliber and 9mm shell casings at the scene. Again, police say no injuries were reported.

Police say the third shooting occurred at 3:46 a.m. at a residence near 17th & Knox Street. Investigators say a resident heard gunshots, then heard a vehicle speeding away. Once on the scene, LPD says officers found that one house had been struck by gunfire. Investigators say it appears that home was hit ten times by gunfire. Damage is estimated at $800, there were no injuries reported. Officers recovered 9mm shell casings at the scene.
