Iowa Schools See More Kids Out Sick With Flu Symptoms

(Des Moines, IA) -- Iowa is seeing more students out of school with flu symptoms.

The Iowa Department of Human Services says 39 schools are reporting at least 10% of its students are out with illnesses.

Iowa schools report student absences on any day 10% or more of the student body is expected to be out sick.

Most cases are in Central Iowa with 13 schools reporting, and in Eastern Iowa with 10 schools reporting.

Iowa HHS says flu activity is moderately high in the state right now as common colds, RSV, and COVID are also on the rise.

Nearly half of outpatient doctor visits for flu symptoms reported nationally were patients ages five to 24, according to data from the Outpatient Influenza-Like Illness Surveillance Network.
