Legacy Crossing Update: All but 2 residents now have case workers

(Omaha, NE) -- The City of Omaha gives an update on the status of residents who were forced to leave their northwest Omaha apartment complex due to unsafe conditions.

The city says two of the four remaining Legacy Crossing residents have now made contact with Heartland Family Services and are working with a case manager. City leaders say 21 families now have permanent housing. Eight additional property inspections are underway before families move to their new, safe housing.

The city says the last several days have been focused on helping tenants get their remaining belongings out of their apartments. Almost everyone is expected to be out by December 31st. The city closed all 17 Legacy Crossing apartment buildings last week after numerous code violations including no heat, collapsed ceilings, raw sewage in standing water, rodent and cockroach infestations, water damage and mold, and water-damaged electrical wiring.
