(Rock Island, IL) -- Around 80 Illinois county sheriffs say they won't enforce parts of the assault weapons ban, including Rock Island, Henry, and Whiteside county sheriff offices.

The Illinois Sheriffs' Association, says the group refuses to require owners of assault weapons to register the gun with the state.

Rock Island County Sheriff Darren Hart joined other sheriffs in Illinois in opposing the state's new ban on assault weapons.
