Boone County Sheriff: Car Struck By Debris, Not Bullet On Highway 169

(Boone County, IA) -- A vehicle investigators thought had been shot at while driving down Highway 169 was actually struck by a piece of metal debris. The Boone County Sheriff’s Office says, upon closer inspection, they discovered the damage had been caused by a square steel rod.

They believe it had fallen from an oncoming vehicle and had enough velocity to pierce the headlight, metal headlight bracket, and hood of the vehicle, similar to how a bullet would have. Investigators initially believed the vehicle had been shot at by a rifle.

More information about the incident is available on the Boone County Sheriff’s Office’s Facebook page.
