(Omaha, NE) -- Two family pets are dead after a late night house fire in North Omaha. The fire broke out in the basement of a home near 37th and Spencer in the Malcom X neighborhood around 10:45 p.m. Thursday. The fire department says a man and six animals were able to escape the home, though a dog and a cat died in the fire. The fire department says it looks like the fire was started by lint in a dryer vent tube. The fire did enough damage that the house is now unlivable.
