(Undated) -- Iowa is getting $14.2 million from The United States Department of Transportation to improve roads at the local level and help reduce national traffic deaths.

The Safe Streets and Roads for All Grant Program targets high-crash sites and funds improved safety planning.

The program is awarding $800 million to 510 projects nationwide, including eight in Iowa.

In addition to the grants, the Federal Highways Administration will award a total of $21 million to 70 Tribes to improve road safety on Tribal lands, address roadway departures, and for better pedestrian crossings.
