(Omaha, NE) -- An arrest is made in a string of Omaha catalytic converter thefts, while investigations continue to catch other suspects.

The Omaha Police Department says over the past several months their Auto Theft Unit detectives, working in conjunction with the Lincoln Police Department and surrounding jurisdictions, identified a group of people responsible for multiple thefts of catalytic converters from various jurisdictions.

OPD says detectives shared evidence and information to compile numerous cases together to show that a structured crew of suspects, each having their assigned tasks during thefts would travel throughout multiple areas stealing numerous catalytic converters during their crime spree. Police say detectives compiled all the reports and worked closely with prosecutors to identify and arrest 25 year old Union Soe for criminal conspiracy.

The OPD Auto Theft Unit is asking for the public's help with these investigations. Residents can contact the OPD Auto Theft Unit directly at 402-444-4600 or Omaha Crime Stoppers at 402-444-STOP with information regarding catalytic converter thefts including but not limited to the following:

  • Groups of people working in concert to steal catalytic converters
  • Parties taking catalytic converters across state lines
  • Parties sending catalytic converters through the mail
  • Scrapyards buying stolen catalytic converters
  • Other businesses such as mechanic shops or tow companies buying stolen catalytic converters
