Omaha Fire investigators say the fire was accidentally caused by discarded smoking materials.
Firefighters Monday afternoon originally responding to reports of a fire on the exterior of the apartment building near 163rd and Emmet Plaza found heavy smoke and fire.
A second alarm was sounded, but was canceled when the fire was quickly brought under control.
There no injuries reported, though several families were displaced.
