Iowa City Bunny Makes Brief Vanishing Act

(Iowa City, IA) -- An inflatable bunny, that's part of an Iowa City art installation, made a disappearing act this week. The Iowa City Downtown District says the bunny, named Bertha, went missing from the Ped Mall early Thursday morning but has since been returned, unharmed.

Someone hopped away with the bunny shortly at 1:50 a.m. Thursday, February 15th, in the 200 block of College Street, between the Iowa City Public Library and the Bread Garden area.

Officials with the Iowa City Downtown District say security cameras showed the deflated bunny being taken southbound on South Linn Street toward Burlington Street.

The bunnies in the installation are named Bertha, Helen, Buster, Hippie T. Hop, Charlie, and Watt-son. Guests at the Ped Malll can interact with them by scanning the QR codes on the signs or by texting 'Hello [Bunny Name]' to 319-346-3443. This month, the conversations and engagements are designed to provide visitors with information about artist Amanda Parer (Parer Studio) and her environmental message behind the bunnies.
