Kansas City Police officer killed this week was Omaha native

(Omaha, NE) -- A Kansas City Police officer killed in the line of duty this week was an Omaha native.

The Kansas City Police Department says officer Jame Muhlbauer, his K-9 partner Champ and a pedestrian died in a crash Wednesday night. Investigators say a car crashed into Muhlbauer's cruiser, causing the cruiser to hit a person walking in the area.

The Omaha Police Officer's Association says Muhlbauer, a 20 year veteran of the Kansas City Police Department, was born and raised in south Omaha.

A man has been arrested in connection to the crash. Investigators say he was speeding and ran a red light at the time of the crash. The suspect is facing two counts of first-degree involuntary manslaughter
