(Ames, IA) -- Iowa Department of Transportation crews are finding a wide range of wintry conditions today (Wednesday), from snow in the far northern counties, to a freezing mix of precipitation closer to the I-80 corridor. Director of Winter Operations Craig Bargfrede says depending on the temperatures, crews may need to switch from putting down a brine to using a mix of salt and sand to create some traction for vehicles. He says crews are especially focusing on northern and east central Iowa, which is under an ice storm warning thru 12 p.m. Thursday.

A Blizzard Warning is in effect for far northwest Iowa, areas shaded pink are under a Winter Storm Warning. Counties shaded in dark purple are under an Ice storm warning. Counties in shaded in light purple are under a Winter Weather Advisory.
