(Eldridge, IA) -- A tentative trial date is set for the Bettendorf woman accused go scamming hundreds of donors on GoFundMe by faking cancer.

The Scott County judge has set the trial date for May 15th after accepting 19-year-old Madison Russo's not-guilty plea.

She pled not guilty on February 28th to a charge of first-degree theft in her alleged fake donation campaign scam.

The charge is a Class C felony which could result in up to ten years in prison.

Russo was arrested in January after her claims she was raising money for her cancer were proven false by Eldridge police.

Police say donors gave Russon thousands of dollars through a GoFundMe campaign where she claimed she had pancreatic cancer.

Medical records found Russo didn't have any type of cancer.

Russo remains out of jail after her bond was posted by Tom Bouland, the man who set up the online campaign, hours after she was arrested.
