(Lincoln, NE) -- Charges will not be filed against the parents of the fifth grader who brought a loaded handgun to Prescott Elementary School on February 24.

Lincoln police say the parents had properly stored the gun, including using a cable gunlock, but the 10-year-old circumvented the safeguards.

Lincoln Public Schools says the student showed the gun to another student and made "concerning comments about violence."

According to Nebraska law, the student is too young to be charged.
