Woman Injured In Northeast Iowa Shooting

(Bremer County, IA) -- A woman is hospitalized after being shot in northeast Iowa. Police in Sumner, Iowa say a man shot a woman then barricaded himself in a home for six hours before taking his own life. Police were called to a home in the 200 block of West 6th Street around 7:30 this (Friday) morning.

Sumner police said the incident started when the male suspect entered his estranged wife's residence with a handgun. The standoff forced the Sumner-Fredericksburg School District to cancel classes. Students were not at school at the time, because of a two-hour delay.
