Woman Injured In Reckless Polk County Chase

(Polk County, IA) -- A woman's hurt after a police chase near Big Creek State Park north of Des Moines. The Polk County Sheriff's Office says the chase started after 10 o'clock this morning, when a reckless driver refused to stop for deputies. The Sheriff's Office says a woman driving an S-U-V nearly caused several accidents, almost hit a deputy head-on, and drove into oncoming traffic several times. The driver eventually went into a ditch on NW Madrid Drive near NW 125th Avenue and hit several trees.

First responders were able to remove the woman from the SUV. She was alert when she was air lifted to a local hospital. Her condition is unknown.

The Sheriff's Office says alcohol may have been a factor in the chase and crash.
