Hundreds Gather for Annual St. Patrick's Day Parade in Des Moines

(Des Moines, IA) -- Hundreds gathered for the annual St. Patrick's Day parade in Des Moines Friday. The event brought both new spectators and those who were regulars.

"It's my first my first time being at this parade, I had no idea it was a thing until a couple days ago," parade spectator Marissa Wonders of Altoona said.

Wonders came to watch along with friend Matea Horsman.

"It's really cool seeing the different culture and bagpipes," Horsman said, "and them carrying their flags."

The parade started around noon, coming east down Grand Avenue. The event, organized by the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick of Central Iowa, started with a downtown tailgate party early in the morning.
