(Cedar Falls, IA) -- The University of Northern Iowa is being awarded a $2.5 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education to improve mental health access for children and adolescents in the state.

UNI will work with Great Prairie, Central Rivers, and Northwest AEAs to train 15 school psychologists over five years.

One school psychologist is recommended for every 500 students according to the National Association of School Psychologists, but in Iowa, it's about 1,734 students for every school psychologist.
