A judge tentatively approved a $725 million settlement involving Meta, Facebook's parent company, after a lawsuit was filed against the company that claimed Facebook to have shared users personal data with third parties. According to WGN9, the settlement won't officially be approved until September, but Facebook users can file a claim in the meantime.
The settlement effects those who have used the Facebook app anytime between May 24th, 2007, and December 22, 2022. Even if your personal data was not shared with third parties, you can still receive a portion of the settlement. In fact, a whopping 200 million citizens across America and Canada are eligible to receive payment as part of the settlement.
Those looking to receive payout from Meta can file online through the Facebook's user privacy settlement page. After filling out all required information on the website, you have the opportunity to choose how you wish to be paid. If you do not prefer to apply for the payment online, you can print out the form and submit it through the mail. How much money you receive after the settlement is approved depends on how long you have been on Facebook, and if you have ever deleted your account.
In order to qualify for the payout, you will have to file by August 25th, 2023. A final decision on the settlement will not be made until September 7th.
