(Marshalltown, IA) -- The City of Marshalltown is turning on two new automated speed cameras on Tuesday. The speed cameras are located on Governor Road at South 12th Avenue, and Lincoln Way near Orchard Drive. The first 30-days, only warnings will be issued to drivers. Fines start on June 22nd for those traveling 11 miles per hour and over. According to a press release, records of violations and fines will not impact the owner of the speeding vehicle’s driving record and records will not be sent to the owner’s auto insurance company.

The fine schedule is as follows:

  • 11-20mph over: $100
  • 21-25mph over: $150
  • 26-30mph over: $250
  • 30+ mph over: $400

The City says a certified Marshalltown Police Officer will review the speeding violation before approving the civil citation, which will be sent to the vehicle owner via mail. The City also says their goal in implementing the program is to reduce excessive speeding.
