Omaha Shooting Investigated

Omaha Police are investigating a shooting.

Investigators say officers in the area of 32nd and R Streets on an unrelated matter Monday night witnessed people in a Chevy Malibu fire gunshots.

Officers tried to stop the vehicle, but it was driven away from the scene.

Police say three occupants of the vehicle eventually bailed near 35th and X Streets.

Officers established a perimeter and took two suspects into custody.

While officers were at that scene, there was a report of a shooting near 42nd and D Streets.

Police found the victim vehicle abandoned at that location.

They say 18-year old Xaire Byrd was taken to a hospital in a private vehicle with injuries not considered life - threatening.

After interviews at Central Police Headquarters, the suspects, a 16-year-old and a 17-year-old, were booked into the Douglas County Youth Center for accessory to a felony and obstructing.

A warrant is being sought for the third suspect.
