Rains Helping To Ease Iowa's Drought

(Undated) -- This week's U.S. Drought Monitor shows continued improvement in Iowa. Recent heavy rains have helped to lift more areas out of drought and to ease the severity of drought in other locations. Half of Iowa is in some form of drought. The driest conditions continue to be in northeast Iowa, where a large part of that region remains in severe drought. Most of central Iowa is either abnormally dry. There are still areas, however of D1 and D2 drought.

The report does not include rainfall this week.

The National Weather Service is predicting warm and dry weather for the next few days. Scattered storms are possible Saturday. Storms are more likely late Sunday into Monday. Forecasters are predicting active weather next week with more chances for storms.
