Storms Cause Heavy Damage In Greenfield, Iowa

(Undated) -- Strong storms spawned multiple tornadoes in Iowa, and heavy damage had been reported in Greenfield, 60 miles west of Des Moines. Witnesses say there are multiple homes that are destroyed in Greenfield, which is located south of I-80.

Damage was also reported in Corning, Iowa, in Adams County.

Strong storms began to track across the state this (Tuesday) afternoon, reaching central Iowa by 4 o'clock. The storms caused some tree damage in the Des Moines area. MidAmerican Energy reports more than 30,000 outages during the height of the storm.

Storms late Monday night into early Tuesday morning also dumped significant rainfall, prompting flash flood warnings and flood warnings.

Governor Kim Reynolds has authorized a Proclamation of Disaster Emergency for 15 counties in response to the severe weather. The governor's proclamation allows state resources to be utilized to respond to and recover from the effects of the severe weather and activates the Iowa Individual Assistance Grant Program and Disaster Case Advocacy Program for the following counties: Adair, Adams, Cass, Clay, Hardin, Harrison, Jasper, Kossuth, Marshall, Montgomery, Page, Palo Alto, Pottawattamie, Tama, and Warren Counties.
