Omaha is getting six-point-eight million dollars from FEMA to pay additional firefighter salaries for three years.

The Staffing for Adequate Emergency Response, or SAFER, grant will pay for 18 firefighter salaries from March 2025 through March 2028.

After that time, the City says it’ll incorporate the salaries into the General Fund.

Federal SAFER grants are meant to help departments maintain a sufficient number of trained front line firefighters available.
