(Des Moines, IA) -- Iowa is unveiling its own version of the Department of Government Efficiency, also known as DOGE. In her annual Condition of the State address, Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds talked about the plans.
"I'm launching our own state DOGE," Reynolds says. "To find even greater savings and efficiencies in both state and local government. Because to pass meaningful property tax reform, we also need to be lean at the local level."
She's appointing Emily Schmitt, General Counsel for Iowa-Based Sukup Manufacturing, to lead the task force. But State Auditor Rob Sand's office says they have a program in place, dubbed Public Innovations and Efficiencies or PIE, that has been working on this for a few years.
"We are hoping that they will be working with our office and working with the PIE program," Sand says. "Because we have been working on this issue already for six years. And not only are we working on it, but we're also making quite a big impact across the state."
Sand says he has not heard from Governor Reynolds' office.
