(Ames, IA) -- Warmer windy weather had firefighters in Ames fighting a grass fire, that later spread to a home on Monday afternoon in the 5400 block of Norris Street. One occupant was injured and later treated for burns and smoke inhalation at Mary Greeley Medical Center, according to press release from the City of Ames.

The American Red Cross is assisting other family members who are displaced.

The City says crews remained at the scene for several hours to prevent the fire from further spreading, due to windy conditions.

No word on the extent of damage to the home.
