State Senate Special Election Goes to Democrat Mike Zimmer

(Des Moines, IA) -- Tuesday's Iowa Senate special election is won by the democratic candidate. Mike Zimmer defeated Katie Washington by 339 votes in the race for Senate District 35, according to the Secretary of State's office. Republicans now own a 34-16 advantage in the chamber. The seat was vacated by Republican Chris Cournoyer, who was appointed Lt. Governor.
