(Rock Island, IL) -- A four year-old Quad Cities girl believed to be missing for nine hours after her mother's car was stolen with her inside was actually safe at home the entire time.
Rock Island Police chief Timothy McCloud says the report was an intentional deception on the part of the girl's mother, and a warrant has been issued for her arrest.
McCloud says when officers saw the girl during a search of the family's house that day, they were told she was a different daughter.
The girl was later sent outside to be found.
The chief says the family has left the area, and anyone knowing their whereabouts are asked to call 911.
