A Perry Middle School student is charged with allegedly making threats toward the school
Perry Police and the Perry School District say police received a call from a parent on Tuesday night, saying their student had overheard a sixth grader making a threat to "shoot up the school".
The student told police he made the comment, but that he was "joking". Officers learned the student made similar threats in December of last year. After a search of the home, police say there were no weapons in the home and the student had no access to weapons.
Police say the sixth grader is charged with one count of threat of terrorism, a felony. The case has been referred to juvenile court.
In a joint statement, the Perry Police Department and Perry Community School District said:
The Perry Police Department and the Perry Community School District take any threat as a serious threat and investigate them fully. At this time, the Perry Police Department and Perry Community School District doesn’t believe there is any ongoing threat to the school, students or staff. The Perry Police Department and Perry Community School District continue to work together in keeping our community and schools safe.
