(Nebraska) – The Nebraska State Auditor reports that many Nebraska superintendents make well over the national average, while first-year teachers make below the national average.

In a report released by State Auditor Mike Foley, it shows that superintendents make six or more times the amount of first-year teachers in their districts. Proposed Legislative Bill 300 would require first-year teachers to at least be making twenty percent of the superintendent's salary. A similar bill, LB 800, was proposed in the 2023 to 2024 legislative session but was indefinitely postponed.

According to the report, the highest-paid superintendent is Fremont Public Schools' Mark Shepard, whose total compensation is over $425,000.
