An Indianola Hy-Vee pharmacist is facing felony charges, accused of fraudulent prescription practices involving more than $14,000 worth of pills.
Indianola Police received a report in last month from the Indianola Hy-Vee that identified discrepancies in medication inventory at its pharmacy.
Police say 42-year-old Jeffrey Bates unlawfully diverted controlled substances, including creating fraudulent prescription records. Pills were also stolen and internal documents were tampered with.
Evidence shows a discrepancy of more than 3,000 pills taken from the pharmacy, totaling over $14,000 dollars.
Bates was taken into custody on Friday morning and is charged with:
- Prohibited Acts – 8 Counts (Class C Felony)
- Theft-1st Degree – 1 Count (Class C Felony)
- Identity Theft – 1 Count (Class D Felony)
- Tampering with Records – 1 Count (Aggravated Misdemeanor)
