Shooting on Des Moines' Southside Leaves One Man Dead

(Des Moines, IA) -- One man is dead following a shooting on Des Moines' southside. City Police responded to an apartment complex in the 22-hundred block of Stanton Avenue late Monday evening.

They found a 47-year old man with a gunshot wound. Officers and fire department medics provided first aid onsite.

The man was transported to a UnityPoint-Methodist Hospital, where he later died. Police believe it was a targeted incident and say there is no indication of ongoing danger to the Southwestern Hills neighborhood.

An investigation into the fatal shooting is underway.
