(Des Moines, IA) -- Overnight storms swept through central Iowa, bringing significant rainfall to the Des Moines Metro and surrounding areas.
“As of 7 a.m., the Des Moines Airport recorded a 24-hour total of 1.30 inches, while our office in Johnston measured 1.94 inches,” said Kristy Carter, Meteorologist with the National Weather Service.
Western Iowa saw some of the heaviest rainfall, with localized totals reaching up to three inches. Meanwhile, eastern parts of the state averaged around two inches.
Carter noted that these totals may be updated as the National Weather Service continues to collect data throughout the day.
More rain is expected this afternoon and evening, which could push totals even higher across the metro.
