(Des Moines, IA) -- The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle fundraiser is looking for more volunteer bell ringers.
“Just two hours of somebody’s day makes a world of difference. Seeing that smiling face at a red kettle is the difference between someone walking by and someone putting a dollar in, and every dollar matters,” said Tamyra Harrison of the Salvation Army.
There are 58 bell-ringing locations in central Iowa. Harrison says the Salvation Army hopes to raise $1.2 million, up from last year’s goal of $1.1 million.
“The money that people put in the kettles in central Iowa stays in central Iowa and helps our friends and neighbors right here by supporting the programs we provide,” Harrison said.
Funds raised from the Red Kettle campaign support Salvation Army programs, including the food pantry and rent assistance.
“We just need all the bell ringers we can get between now and Christmas Eve to make sure we have smiling faces at all those kettles, so that when people go by, they want to give and help our neighbors in need this season,” Harrison said.
