National Study Shows Improvement In Iowans' Tax Burden

(Iowa) -- Iowan's will pay fewer taxes, under two reforms passed into law over the past three years.

The state approved property tax reform this year, which is expected to save homeowners $4.2 billion dollars over six years.

Ben Murrey of Common Sense Institute of Iowa says this reform will give immediate relief to taxpayers and creates controls that allows the state to remain tax competitive over the long term.

Murrey adds the other measure lowered the state's individual tax rate to a flat, 3.9 percent.

A new, national CSI study shows Iowa's overall tax burden will go down significantly over the next six years as a result of the reforms.

The metrics of the study are based on the percent of state personal income required to pay all local taxes statewide each year.
