(Johnston, IA) -- A Polk County Sheriff's deputy is recovering at home after being seriously injured in a fatal shooting at a Johnston home Monday.
Nick Smith was one of three deputies who exchanged gunfire with 44-year old Austin Mark, who was killed during the shoot-out.
It came after deputies tried serving Mark with a mental health warrant.
Smith was hospitalized and later released.
The three officers involved have been placed on leave, which is standard protocol for the department. The shooting remains under state investigation.
