(IOWA ) -- For the first time, Iowa's education ranking is in the bottom half of states.
A study from the Anne E. Casey Foundation ranked Iowa 27th nationally. The report shows 71 percent of fourth graders are not proficient in reading.73 percent of eighth graders are not proficient in math. 13% of high school seniors are not graduating on time, up from 8 % just before the pandemic. The report is based on data collected from 2020-2024. Iowa ranked 20th in the 2025 report. This is the first time Iowa ranked in the bottom half since the report was created in 1990.
