(Iowa) -- Iowa and three other states are joining a Federal Trade Commission lawsuit against a transgender education organization.

The FTC lawsuit alleges the World Professional Association for Transgender Health made false claims regarding the safety, effectiveness, and necessity of medical transition surgeries and drugs including puberty blockers and hormones. The lawsuit seeks to require the organization to only make recommendations based on peer-reviewed medical and scientific evidence.

Joining the FTC lawsuit are Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird as well as the attorneys general of Nebraska, Texas, and Alaska. The full text of the lawsuit is available on the Iowa Attorney General Office website.
