The National Weather Service says an Extreme Heat Warning remains in effect until 9 p.m. Tuesday for the Omaha/Council Bluffs Metro, Douglas and Sarpy Counties, and Southwest Iowa.
Dangerously hot conditions with heat index values up to 104;
The Iowa Counties are Pottawattamie, Fremont, Mills, Montgomery, Page, and Shelby.
Heat related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat and high humidity events.
NWS says overnight heat indices in the upper-70s to lower-80s will make it difficult for homes without air conditioning to cool down.
Hot weather is expected to persist through the week.
