Name of Iowa woman killed in wrong-way crash released

UPDATE:   The Iowa State Patrol is releasing the name of a woman killed in a wrong-way crash on Highway 18 in Cerro Gordo Monday.   Authorities say 78-year-old Darlene Keifer of Greene was driving east in the westbound lanes of the highway yesterday, around 11:30, when her car collided head-on with a van driven by 54-year-old Blaine Freeman of Elk Run Heights, Iowa.  Freeman was taken to a Mason City Hospital, with minor injuries.   Keifer was pronounced dead at the scene.

CERRO GORDO COUNTY, Iowa-  One person was killed, another injured in a wrong-way crash east of Mason City this morning.  

The Iowa State Patrol says the driver of a Buick Century was headed east in the westbound lanes of highway 18 in Cerro Gordo County, around 11:30 today, and collided nearly head-on with a Ford transport van, driven by 54-year-old Blaine Freeman of Elk Run Heights, Iowa.

Freeman was injured and taken to the hospital in Mason City.

The name of the person killed has not been released.
