Prairie City, Iowa man killed in Jasper County crash

UPDATE:   The Iowa State Patrol has identified a person killed in a Jasper County crash this morning as 50-year-old Rex Chickering of Prairie City.   Authorities say Chickering was driving a Chevy van that rear-ended farm equipment, being towed by 53-year-old Curt Kaisand of Monroe.   Chickering's vehicle went into a ditch and caught fire.  He was pronounced dead at the scene.  The accident happened on Highway 163 northwest of Monroe after 8 a.m.

JASPER COUNTY, Iowa-  One person was killed in a Jasper County crash this (Monday) morning on Highway 163 near Monroe.  The Iowa State Patrol says the driver of a car rear-ended a vehicle towing farm machinery at mile marker 24, northwest of Monroe.   Authorities say the vehicle went into the ditch and caught fire.  The driver, whose name has not been released, was dead at the scene.  

Authorities tell Channel 13 WHO-TV about an hour and a half after the crash, a State Patrol squad car, on the side of the road was struck by a semi, as the trooper was directing traffic.  The trooper was not injured.
